More Lighthouses along Lake Ontario

Image
Our week started out different this week because our P-Day would be on Saturday instead of Monday.  We stuck close to home, working on things for the ward and working on the bulletin boards that we were doing outside the Bishop's office and in the Relief Society room.  They turned out great.  One is divided into thirds with the names of Jesus Christ as the center.  We placed pictures of Jesus with all the names we find in "The Living Christ".  On the left, we did Book of Mormon Stories - Who's Your Hero.  We put pictures of some of our favorite Book of Mormon heroes with a scripture that speaks of them.  On the right, we put Follow the Prophet, the temple, and the covenant path.  It looks a little busy, but we like it. The biggest and best part of the week was our Zone Conference.  We love when we are with the Elders and Sisters.  This was big because it was our last Zone Conference.  Not sure how the time went so fast.  ...

Two Lighthouses and Many Blessings

August 14th is always a tender day for us.  As we think of Natalie and what life might look like for her.  We find joy in celebrating her on that day each year.  This year we decided to go to a place up North called Cape Vincent.  It is a tiny little town that sits on the Saint Lawrence Seaway as it joins up with Lake Ontario.  We went out to Tibble Point Lighthouse which sits right at the confluence of the Saint Lawrence Seaway and the lake.  It was fun to see.  Someone told me that it isn't a real pretty lighthouse, but we kinda liked it. After seeing the lighthouse, we headed South just a bit to see the Sacket's Harbor Battlefield.  Sackets Harbor also sits on the banks of Lake Ontario. It's a little town that seems to be a bit of a tourist trap now.  Lots of private boats in harbor there and a few expensive restaurants.  Sacket's Harbor was a Naval shipyard built during the War of 1812 and housed several thousand men in the shi...

2 Weeks for the Price of One!

Image
Well, we had a week get away from us, so you get 2 for the price of one.  We have been on the run and sorry to have missed a week.  We've had a couple of fun P-Days.  The first was a District P-Day which we do once a transfer.  On this day, we played frisbee as we waited for everyone to arrive at the park and then we played some volleyball.  I sat out because I didn't want to take a chance on twisting my knee.  But we had a good time.  We went to brunch at Raspberries afterward.  We all definitely like being together-and they even like having the old people with them. That was transfer week which can be hard and exciting all at once.  We get the video call on Wednesdays and transfers are on Friday.  The call came and each companionship was being affected.  Our cute Sister Baker was going to move to Auburn and she had a really hard time at the thought of leaving.  We took her and Sister Okusi for ice cream to say goodbye a...

The Week After

Camp came and now is done.  It was a good week spent in a beautiful part of the world.  It was hot, hot, hot-and humid.  Luckily we had some fans in our cabin to keep us cooler at night.  Our camp theme was "UP" and we focused on LOOK UP, CHEER UP, REACH UP!  There were UP decorations all over the place.  We had a funky carnival, zip lining, archery, rock climbing, lots of fun games, and lots of devotionals with the Spirit so strong.  YW Camp is really a one of a kind experience. While we were at camp, we celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary.  We had fun on the zip line and running snacks around to all the girls.  Mike had a little speaker and played ice cream truck music so they knew we were coming.  President Gentry gave us permission to go to Corning for a couple of days to celebrate our anniversary.  So once camp was over we climbed in the car and headed for Corning. We were hot and so tired.  Our hotel room had th...
