Another One of Those Weeks

Well, life didn't go so well this week.  That sickness that kept me home from church last Sunday, pretty much lasted the entire week.  With the exception of Wednesday and Saturday, I spent most of the week sleeping off a crummy cold and coughing my head off. Poor Mike, he sure got in a lot of scripture study and working on the computer to consolidate the info on our new ward so visiting will be easier for us. He took such good care of me and we are so thankful that he didn't catch the crummy cold too.

Wednesday we did go to Walmart to walk and to buy ice cream for District Council.  We have two elders celebrating birthdays this week and last Wednesday was the day to celebrate.  Sister Park, our new Senior Sister made a delicious chocolate cake and we brought the ice cream.  After we learned together, we ate lunch and had cake and ice cream.  It was great.

We ran home, I rested some, and then we went off to Oneida to pick up one of our Young Women for the YW activity.  We actually went bowling with the YM and they wanted me to bowl so I did.  It was great but I could sure feel it sapping my strength.

Thursday turned out to be a bust as well.  We had worked on getting our Book of Mormon lesson all ready and then the forecast for freezing rain came through and the people asked if we could bump it to this coming week because they didn't want to be on the roads.  So we cancelled and Book of Mormon is our favorite, so it was hard to cancel.

We did have a chance to meet up with the Senior Couples on Friday afternoon.  We actually went to a girl's JV basketball game and watched our Mission Leader's daughter play. It was great and is always fun to be with the Gentry's and the other Senior missionaries. And our girl won her game.  The Senior couples
had dinner afterwards.  We headed home in a bit of a snowstorm but that doesn't bother us.

Saturday was a day for fixing food.  We were getting ready for two different pot luck meals on Sunday! I made a big crockpot full of cheesy potatoes and ham for our ward linger longer and a big enchilada casserole for the Single Adult potluck that evening.  I put them in the refrigerator and it felt great to be done for Sunday.

Sunday was a good day at church.  We like this little ward.  It needs some help, but most wards do.  We look forward to getting to know these wonderful people better.  We had a great linger longer, but next month I will for sure be taking a green salad.  People in this area don't eat green things.  Most like their pasta.  We had mostly carbs for dinner with a side of meat.  One brother always brings two huge cakes.  Literally, they are the size of sheet cakes and double the thickness.  There is always more than enough food and it's a fun time to socialize together.

Sunday evening was good too.  We only had about 17 people and 8 of them were missionaries haha! (Our Stake is not like a Utah Stake, we are spread out over about 150 miles by about 45 miles so getting people there is tricky.) Again, we had a bunch of pasta dishes, but we did have a green salad and a heavenly coconut cream pie. After the dinner we always have a speaker.  The brother who gave the talk/discussion was awesome. He talked about forgiveness and the importance of letting go of our hurt feelings and grudges.  He used Sister Yee's talk from October Conference and it is filled with beautiful doctrine.  It was a wonderful discussion.  We feel so blessed to be part of these great people's lives.

We are thankful to be missionaries. Our association with the young missionaries is our most favorite thing.  They are strong and courageous!  They are bold and kind.  We love our Heavenly Father and our Savior, Jesus Christ.  We love that we can serve them and give back the tiniest portion of the blessings we have. We look forward to a new week with lots of possibilities.  We hope you are happy and healthy.  We love you!
