Valentine's Day Ice Cream Cones

The day celebrating love was actually the day before transfers.  We love our missionaries and we get pretty attached to them. We meet with them every week, we teach with them, and we learn a ton from them, so transfers tug at our hearts.  There is a gas station/convenience store/ice cream shop called Stewarts.  Most ice cream places close for the winter season but Stewarts always has ice cream-and they have all kinds of different flavors that are really yummy.  On Valentine's Day they ran a special for $1 a scoop cones.  We decided it would be fun to take our Rome Sisters for a cone to say goodbye to Sister Curzon who was transferred to Palmyra (Lucky Girl).

We also drove to Hamilton (45 minutes) to take our Sisters there for ice cream. We didn't get a picture
with them.  Sister Maw was leaving to go home-back to Alaska.  We gave them hugs and said goodbye.  We ran to visit a friend in West Winfield and then to a Regional Volleyball game. (They call it Sectional instead of Regional).  Our little friend played a hard fought battle.  They went all 5 games and lost 15-13.  On the way home, we decided that we just couldn't let $1 a scoop go without one more cone.  We are out of control.  But they are just so tempting. And mine in the photo really isn't bigger, it's just that I was holding the phone/camera.
Because we don't have District Council on the week of transfers, we met up with Elder and Sister Park for lunch.  We tried a new place in New Hartford-a deli called Pumpernickles Deli. Mike had a Philly and I had a chicken bacon ranch panini.  If any of you want to come visit, we'll take you there.  There a few places we could take you.  In fact, Friday night we went to the Limp Lizard with the office couples and the Parks.  We both had a burnt ends sandwich and it leaves us wanting to go back again for a repeat.  That sandwich is big enough that we could share-a note for next time. It was huge and so dang good.  We did get a picture of all of us-but it is super blurry.  The girl taking it wasn't very steady handed.  You'll get the idea though.

We feel so blessed to serve with these missionaries.  They are incredible.  They work so hard to keep our missionaries with everything that they need.  They take care of the fleet of cars, pay for their apartment rent, make sure they have money on their cards for food and their fuel cards, make sure they are okay if they hit a deer (which happens a lot in Upstate New York), and help them when they are sick or having health issues.  We have a few other couples in the mission, but they are so far away they can't join us on Friday evenings.  We feel blessed to visit with them once a month on a Zoom call.

Saturday morning brought us to the temple.  We were so blessed to be able to do Sealings and Initiatory for family members that we had found on Family Tree.  Afterwards we ran to the Sacred Grove to get a winter photo.  It was cold and the grove looks so different than what the pictures and movies show.  I plan to grab a photo in the early spring, around the time we think the first vision took place.  Chances are it wasn't very leafy then either.
We spent Saturday afternoon driving home and joining in a phone lesson with our Sisters and then working on some Relief Society and ward stuff.  We started writing talks for sacrament meeting (nothing like waiting until the last minute).  We got to bed way too late.

Sunday was a beautiful day.  We had the opportunity to talk for our first time in our Rome Ward.  I talked on Grace and Mike talked on how God shows His love to us by giving us Prophets. Both talks were actually pretty good-not to brag haha.  After church I had a RS meeting-trying to get us off the ground and running.  We got home at 2:30 and started dinner.  We are blessed to have the Sisters come on Sunday evenings to have dinner with us.  Our new Sister is gluten free so I had to work around wheat.  I was so worried about cross contamination but I think I/she did okay.  Keeping our fingers crossed.  It was a great week.  We are looking forward to another week full of blessings.  We love you all.  We pray for you every day.  We hope you have a wonderful week.
